Another Raw Food Vegan Gets Cancer?
I am a raw food vegan and have been for mostly 20 years. I feel it is the ideal diet to follow to avoid getting a disease. However I often remind people there is no panacea and not even a raw food vegan diet can assure you won't get cancer or some other diseases.
There are many factors with disease and diet plays a big role in many of them. I am sure eating a raw vegan diet can help people improve an existent condition. It may also help a person completely recover.
Someone may ask, if there is no assurance it will work, why deprive yourself of certain pleasures, ie : unhealthy treats and gourmet foods?
Let me explain how I see it and maybe this will help you answer that question.
I have been awake most of last night. I didn't sleep well because a good friend who has been eating healthy for many years told me they had a tumor.
This person is not 100% raw, but I would consider them to be doing all the right things when it comes to health. Besides diet, they exercise, sleep well and maintain a stress free life as much as he can.
When I heard the sad news it reminded me of my best friend who two years ago passed away from cancer. He was 100% raw food many years and had many other healthy habits. It really shocked everyone that this could happen to him.
I remember getting health insurance prior to that and the person explaining the type of insurance and amounts of coverage said to me, "what if you get something like cancer", and I replied with full confidence," there is no way possible I could develop cancer " I really believed that.
After seeing my best friend and long time raw food vegan die of cancer and hearing other stories like that, I have lost my confidence that I am invincible to cancer and other diseases.
Okay so why even try? Here is the reason. I remember asking another friend if living a raw vegan diet is worth it, and he said based on all we know about nutrition and health we have to believe that there is no better way to eat and even though the raw vegan diet is not a panaeca, what if that person wasn't eating healthy?
Would they have survived as long as they did? This made a lot of sense and helped me put things in perspective.
I have a family and every second I spend with them is a gift. They say living an unhealthy lifestyle and eating a bad diet can take years from your life. I am convinced eating good food and living healthy can add years to our life.
So we may or may not have some control of how we die, but we can certainly have something to say about adding more years to our life. And if you are doing the right things, they should be good quality years.
What are the right things?
